Who is responsible for paying building management to check on a leak?
The other day, my downstairs neighbor notified me that water was leaking into their unit. Not knowing where the water was coming from, he called the building manager (we live in a condo building) to come out and look for the leak. They manager came and spoke to me briefly and determined it was probably coming from our shower, which I was using at the time of the leak. I came home the other day to find a bill in my mail from the management charging me $210 for the visit. I called the manager and he said because the leak was from my unit, I was being charged. However, he didn't even step food into my unit to determine this! I still had to pay a plumber to come determine where the leak was in my unit, and to fix it. I am just so irritated that I am being charged for the property manager to come out to "look" when he did not do anything specifically to my unit. Who should pay for this bill? I feel like it should have been charged to the HOA if he did not enter my unit.
